Food and Wine Festivals Across the U.S.

We’ve been a little slow with posts on GA as of late because we’ve been busy at work on a few other projects (more on those soon), but will be returning to our regularly scheduled programming just after Memorial Day, and with some exciting, new features! Meanwhile, here’s a roundup we put together for the Daily Beast on the top food and wine festivals happening across the U.S. this summer. Cheers and have a great week!

Glorious Getaway: Calistoga Ranch

If Robinson Crusoe had had fancier digs (and was somehow marooned in wine country) I think they might have looked something like the guest lodges at Calistoga Ranch. Nestled in a private canyon in Upper Napa Valley, the 48-rooms at this resort blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings with expansive cedar decks, polished wood details, and floor-to-ceiling windows. My favorite amenity: outdoor rain showers like the one below.

Guests here may never want to leave their rustic-chic accommodations, but those who do will discover a wide range of activities. At the ranch, you can spend a day by the pool, take a yoga class, go for a hike, or hit the spa for a charmingly region-specific treatment like the “Cabernet Classic”—a red wine body scrub followed by a grapeseed oil massage and wine bath. There’s wine tasting, of course, as well as wine-blending classes and demos by members of the Culinary Institute of America on property. Or, head out and spend the day tasting around the area’s more than 300 wineries.

End the day with cocktails at sunset, followed by organic farm-to-table fare at the ranch’s super romantic restaurant The Lakehouse, set among the trees on the shore of Lake Lommel.

Festival Fridays: Festival Del Sole, Napa Valley

Love food, wine, and classical music? Then mark your calendar for a trip to Napa Valley and the Festival Del Sole from July 13th-22nd.  Each day offers visitors the chance to drink at dine at some of the region’s most beautiful venues, from vinter’s luncheons at spots like Darioush Winery, Black Coyote Chateu, and Kenzo Estate, to al fresco dinners at Hall Winery (above) and Far Niente. Spend the evenings taking in performances by classical musicians including soprano Danielle de Niese and mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, as well performances by dancers from the Bolsoi Ballet, and the San Francisco and Boston Ballets. Yoga fans should also plan on rising early one morning to practice among the vines with winemaker-cum-yoga-instructor Nicole Abiouness, followed by a tasting of her winery’s rose. See the entire calendar of events and purchase tickets here, and a list of hotels and resorts offering special discounts for festival goers here.
